Contemporary Arts Organizations Announce Partnership

Waterloo Region, Ontario – February 19, 2015: Inter Arts Matrix, NUMUS Concerts Inc., and Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound have today announced a partnership that will build on their past history of artistic collaboration to develop a new and innovative administrative structure. They anticipate this approach will allow them to more effectively share and build on resources, and identify further opportunities to increase their artistic effectiveness.

The establishment of the working partnership was developed with support from The Canada Council for the Arts, and has recently received funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to obtain administrative support that will help the three organizations pursue organizational growth and sustainability projects.

In particular the OTF funding has allowed the organizations to hire Sarah Kernohan, formerly with CAFKA, to work with them for a one year pilot project.  Sarah’s experience and knowledge will allow her to not only support the current staff as they work to identify ways to streamline their administrative structures but may provide fresh insights. Sarah will begin working later this spring.

Sarah noted “I am excited to be working with InterArts Matrix, NUMUS, and Open Ears in this new role. I admire the work that they are doing and I am thrilled to be welcomed into fold as this partnership between the three organizations develops. I feel that I will be able to bring a lot to the table in terms of my own experience working in administration in the visual arts. The added perk for me is that it’s a bit of a return for me, as I stopped my musical practice when I started studying the visual arts at university.  I’m looking forward to engaging with this the programming on a more intimate level.”

“The community will benefit from the lessons learned throughout the development and implementation of the partnership,” said Cheryl A. Ewing, Festival Manager for Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound. “We hope to be a model for future collaboration in the arts and culture sector.”

“This important partnership will now allow our respective organizations to more effectively pursue other capacity building projects, such as fundraising, marketing, volunteer management, and governance,” said Kathryn Ladano, Artistic Director for NUMUS Concerts Inc. “This is only the beginning.”

Each of the three organizations has its unique artistic mandate, and the partnership will free the artistic directors to do what they do best - create, curate and present cutting edge work.” said Drew Maddison, Board Chair for Inter Arts Matrix. “We have collaborated together on many artistic projects over the years, and the partnership will help us all build stronger, more sustainable organizations that will foster more creativity in Waterloo Region.  This is a positive step for the entire community.”
