CAFKA and Open Ears will holding a joint launch event announcing the spring line-up of artists and projects at Cork Hall, McCabe’s Irish Pub and Grill, 352 King Street West, Kitchener on Wednesday, March 19, 6 PM.
This is an exciting time for Open Ears! The first festival curated by incoming artistic director Gregory Oh, and a new timeframe that now coincides with our programming partner CAFKA. There is going to be so much amazing activity in June 2014 emerging from these two catalytic organizations - come to the launch and get all of the details!
#OE14 will run from June 5 to June 14, and will feature concerts, installations and sound events curated around our theme of "Open Stories". Venues will include the Registry Theatre, THEMUSEUM, The Princess CInema, the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery and many other spaces and places in the region.
CAFKA.14, running from May 31 through June 29, 2014, will present original installations, performances and projections by contemporary artists in public squares, storefronts, parks and public atriums of the Waterloo Region. The projects in the exhibition are produced and curated by CAFKA in conjunction with a number of partner organizations including the University of Waterloo Art Gallery, City of Kitchener, Cambridge Galleries, Cambridge Sculpture Garden and the Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound. In addition to the announcement of the list of artists and projects, Marcel O'Gorman will present the theme for CAFKA 2014.
The June 2014 biennial exhibition will be the first time the biennial exhibition has taken place in the spring as well as being our first month-long exhibition.
